Right now as I type, a spider is walking down my arm. He is a spindly little thing with legs as fine as the hair he’s treading upon, the kind of spider you would only need to blow away if you were so inclined. We seem to be getting on fairly well, however, and if he can put up with me, I can put up with him. I am, as it turns out, easy like Sunday morning.
Today should be an exercise in mellow. A quick trip in to campus this morning allowed me to handle most of the bits and bobs that have been fluttering around my skull, so my work today promises to be both constant and modest. In another life I was probably a Clydesdale, and a slow, steady haul suits me just fine.
I find that this mellow mode is typical of the space between projects. I took a look at my long-term docket again this morning, and I’ve just entered one of the quieter phases I might anticipate this year. We’ll be in the thick of semester’s end soon enough, but most of my major committee obligations, pressing projects, and wiggedy weeks are behind me. My mellow is being aided and abetted by a cool, cloudy day, and a nap is not entirely out of the question. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve already prepared for class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; I think Thursday can wait for now.
Let us enjoy this little slice of ease in the midst of the springtime friskery. To tide you over until I’m humming on high once again, here’s a little something for the ladies.
